The Decentralised Social Media Platform - Diamond App
DESO - Decentralised Social Media App
DESO is a new layer-1 blockchain built from the ground up to scale decentralized social applications to one billion users. The Diamond app I cover here is their first social media application.
Some background on why there is a need for decentralised social media.
"Today, social media is even more centralized than the financial industry was prior to the creation of Bitcoin. A handful of private companies effectively control public discourse, and earn monopoly profits off of content that they don't even create. Meanwhile, the creators who actually produce this content are underpaid, under-engaged, and under-monetized thanks to an outdated ads-driven business model."
The solution - a social media platform, based on the blockchain, where you own and control your content and where you (can) get rewarded for it in full transparency.
What does it do?
Imagine a Twitter/Facebook like experience but only better, in the way that you will always own your data and you decide how to monetize it through different approaches.
They store all content updates and transactions on the blockchain and these are fully transparent.
As a Public Relations professional, you need to know what's coming in online communication and this is one trend to follow and even explore hands on.
The Diamond app is a fully functioning social media platform with all the publishing power you expect from the big players. However, it is different in many ways...
Every user's profile is stored on-chain and is solely controlled by the user's private keys, making your identity portable between all apps in the DeSo ecosystem.
Exclusive content, called NFTs created on the platform are associated with the content provider's profile, and can be shown off on the "buyer's" profile, enhancing provenance while making them inherently social, and more valuable.
Every profile created on the platform can have a social token attached to it. Social tokens on the platform earn cash flow from NFT sales, and soon all forms of creator monetization.
Because the platform is created on a blockchain, it's easy to use money-native features like tipping. Tips can be integrated directly with content, allowing users to give "diamonds" (with monetary value) to posts rather than just "likes."
Every post and reply is stored and indexed directly on-chain, meaning that your content is portable across all apps in the DESO ecosystem. If one app's algorithms aren't showing you love, there are thousands of others that will instead!
The DESO core development team is relentlessly focused on using the power of blockchain to create as many new ways for creators to monetize as possible.
Some examples; there are several mobile apps who allow you to manage your profile on the same platform. There is a "service/business" matching feature, a rewards integration, video and audio rooms and much more.
- FREE + you get $25 for signing up as a starting fund to reward content creators you like (or spend as you see fit on the DESO platform).
PS: this is 100% decentralised social media, meaning that anyone can post whatever they want. You might encounter NSFW content along the road. Ultimately, it is up to you who you will follow on the social media platform.
One last thing...
